Expedition Route

With the Great Rift Valley running through the middle of the country we will head through the Serengeti towards Arusha. Lying not far from Mt Kilimanjaro the highest peak in Africa our destination is Moshi, where we hope to visit the first of our African Projects, TATCOT and KASI. After spending time in Moshi we head back to Arusha and then south through the capital Dodoma, Iringa and Mbeya towards Zambia.

Visas are required by all nationals and are valid for three months. It can be issued on the border and costs £45.

Interesting Facts
The highest point in Tanzania (and Africa) is Mount Kilimanjaro, a volcano which reaches 5,895 metres. Lake Tanganyika is one of the world's deepest lakes forming a natural border between Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In the 1970s Mary Leakey's team found hominid footprints in the Laitoli Site, near the Olduvai gorge. These are thought to date back as far as 3.6 million years.
"Serengeti" is derived from the Maasai word for "endless plains".
