Expedition Route

We start our journey by driving through the sparsely populated north of the country. Bordered by 8 countries we will travel through the high plateau's towards Kapiri Mposhi and the capital Lusaka. From here we head for Lake Kariba and Victoria Falls on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Visas are required by all nationals and are valid for three months. It can be issued on the border and costs £45.

Interesting Facts

Dr David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, named the Victoria Falls after the British queen. The local name for the "Victoria Falls" is "Mosi oa Tunya" which means the smoke that thunders. Zambia is a major producer of emeralds, mining twenty percent of the world's annual production. Lake Kariba on the River Zambezi is one of the world's largest man-made lakes. The Zambezi was dammed at Kariba at the end of the 1950's to provide hydro-electric power to Zambia and Zimbabwe.
