Founding Partners

Driving Home has been made possible through the support of four key organisations, who have helped to raise the scope and profile of the project and continue to provide support and professional advice.

Cranfield University and The Cranfield School of Management

Cranfield University became involved in the project in 2003 through an existing contact with Ashburton Securities ( another founding partner ), and has since played an active part in setting up The Colin Javens Spinal Injury Trust.

Senior members of Cranfield staff are active on the project Steering Committee, who provide links to other key people within the Cranfield network. They are able to offer the project advice on the business planning side, as well as on the expedition vehicle, and more importantly access to many influential and high profile individuals.

Pauline Weight, former Director of Cranfield's MBA programme, and now a Senior Lecturer, says "Cranfield University is pleased to be associated with this ground breaking expedition. The University is one of Western Europe's largest academic centres for strategic and applied research, development and design. The demands of the 'Driving Home' project encompass the three areas upon which the University has built its international reputation; technology, science and management. The University will contribute by offering professional help and guidance from its faculty and staff and access to a worldwide network of alumni and contacts in the commercial and not-for-profit sector. This endeavour will go beyond the challenges of the expedition and, through fundraising, stretch the boundaries of spinal research".

Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Stoke Mandeville Hospital, and more specifically the National Spinal Injuries Centre ( NSIC ), have also supported the project from the start. NSIC will provide medical help and advice for the expedition, and will oversee the recruitment of a medic to take part in the expedition, to take care of Colin's specific needs, as well as those of the rest of the expedition team.

Ashburton Jersey

Through the Breed Foundation, the project has also attracted interest from Ashburton Jersey, who will be supporting the Driving Home project as their Charity of the Year for 2005. As part of this initiative they will organise fundraising events including a Launch event in 2005, which will be in partnership with a local Jersey charity. They will also provide legal advice as well as assistance with the financial side of the project.
