Information about spinal injury in Africa

The life expectancy of someone sustaining a spinal injury in Africa is 2-3 years, compared to a normal life expectancy in the UK. This is not just a result of medical care, but from the lack of understanding and expectation of a spinally injured person. Many disabled people in Africa are isolated and do not leave their beds after an accident, not knowing what is possible.

Colin has had greatly advanced medical assistance, which he is very thankful for. However he hopes to be able to share his own experiences to show that mental strength is the first step to overcoming the restraints of a disability, wherever you are in the world, and that it is this strength of mind that is the initial factor that creates life after injury.

Driving Home will be supporting organisational partners of the charity 'Motivation', which works to enhance the quality of life for people with mobility disabilities around the world www.motivation.org.uk
